Amenities

The best natural experience.

We curated The Lazy Bear with high quality organic linens from Bed Threads and oversized towels from Brooklinen. All cleaned with chemical free plant based products. In the kitchen you’ll find certified non-toxic Our Place cookware, a fully stocked organic spice rack, and all the kitchen gadgets you might ever need, including an Instant Pot pressure cooker and coffee grinder. Speaking of coffee, we provide organic whole beans, as well as both a French press and pour over which you can enjoy in a unique mug made by renowned potter Bill van Gilder, while playing a unique puzzle game sourced from a Etsy small business.

You’ll find a large covered wood pile to enjoy a cozy fire on a winter evening in front of the large glass-front wood stove, or relax on a warm summer night by one of the two outdoor firepits. If making wood fires isn’t you thing, we even have a propane fire pit on the deck for you to enjoy.

We have two kayaks available for rent to explore some of the most untouched mountain rivers and streams on the East coast.

However, all this remote mountain luxury doesn’t mean you’ll be disconnected from modern life! (Unless, of course, you choose to be!) The Lazy Bear features WiFi connectivity to work or play.

45 Minutes- Winchester, VA. Enjoy strolling along the pedestrian mall lined with small shops and restaurants in historic Winchester, VA. Sample some excellent locally brewed beer at Vibrissa.

45 Minutes- Berkley Springs, WV. “America’s First Resort town” features a walkable main street and weekend farmers market during warm months.

90 Minutes- Frederick, MD. Founded in 1745, artistic downtown Frederick features a large selection of excellent restaurants- some of our favorites include White Rabbit Gastropub for the best Detroit style pizza, The Wine Kitchen for an upscale experience, Hooch and Banter for excellent brunch and craft cocktails, all set on a picturesque street lined with 200 year old German-style churches, unique shops and a dozen breweries. Carrol Creek Linear Park stretches for two miles and includes water fountains in the summer and illuminated boats in the winter. Multiple festivals are held during the winter and summer months.

United States History- This area is rich in US Civil War history, with the battlefields of Gettysburg, Antietam, Petersburg, and many others within 2 hours of the cabin. Even downtown Washington DC, with it’s world famous and free Smithsonian Museum system, is about 2 hours away.

Outdoor Activities- The Mountain State is well known for it’s hiking, biking, and water activities, many of which are right outside your door when you stay at The Lazy Bear! Enjoy our two rental Kayaks to paddle the calm Cacapon River, explore the 3118′ long Paw Paw tunnel while biking at the C&O Canal National Park, or go for a hike on the world famous Appalachian Trail.
